Example of Additional Commissioning in Worship Service

Example of Additional Commissioning in Worship Service

And now, we are commissioned!
Having been called into the Lord’s presence, having been cleansed by confession and authoritative forgiveness, having been consecrated by the sermon, and having been communed by the Lord’s Supper, and having been to the mountain of mountains, to worship with angels and archangels and all the company of Heaven, we cannot stay there. We are to be sent out, to say and do that which will bring about the full realization of the feast.

P: We are commissioned.
C: We are commissioned indeed!

It’s like it was on the Mount of Transfiguration. They could not stay there, for there was someone at the foot of the mountain to be helped.

Who is at the foot of our mountain?
How goes the battle?
What do we see, as we look at the battlefield from the mountain?
Soon, we will pray for those fighting on fronts that we have commissioned previously.
But today, we begin fighting on two new and very important fronts. We begin by praying for our research team, who will be investigating these two fronts: (1) Liabilities into Assets—for example, the ocean of plastic the size of Texas situated between Hawaii and Japan. (2) Long-term callings—for example, Berman says in ‘Law and Revolution’ that those building medieval cathedrals literally had budgets for a thousand years.

Our general situation—1
Christ has conquered.
We’re mopping up, by His command and in His power.
It’ll take awhile.
Let’s get to praying and working.

Our general position—2
a—The church started as a ‘tribe’ in the Roman ‘empire.’ Heir to all Israel from Adam.
As the Empire fell, King and Bishop stood side by side.
Now there are native churches in every land, and politics is becoming more
tribal. [For more on this see ‘Who Rules the Land?’ and ‘Crisis, Opportunity
and the Christian Future’.]

b—There are major changes every 500 years. @ A. D. 1000 is was the investiture
controversy. @ 1500 came the Reformation. Now, it is proposed, the move is
toward Metropolitanism. Similar to ‘the church in Ephesus’. See Bledsoe, and
such works as ‘From the New Middle Ages to the New Dark Ages…’ here:
http://www.strategicstudiesinstitute.army.mil/pubs/display.cfm?pubID=867 and
Jane Jacobs.

c—There have been four social orders. Tribes, Empires, Israel, Greece. After He
Reversed the Trend (Jesus Christ), these were glorified in reverse order, each
glorification eliminating the worst aspect of that particular social order, the
Greeks always being a companion. The Church, the new Israel, eliminated the
Exclusiveness—the first 1000 years. The nation-state, the new Empire,
eliminated slavery—the second 1000 years. And now we are entering an era of
the new tribe, aiming to eliminate the perpetual warfare of the tribe.

At the same time, these social orders are represented among us by a calendar
for each. Community calendars for tribes, business calendars for empires,
ecclesiastical calendars for Israel, and educational calendars for Greece. See
Multiformity of Man, here:
http://www.argobooks.org/rosenstock/pdf/The-Multiformity-of-Man.pdf. Also
the last few chapters of Universal History 1954, from www.argobooks.org, and
Chapter 5 of ‘Beyond Belief’ by Gardner, for the covenant structure of new
‘revolutions’. This also applies to a--, and b--, above.

Our particular situation in Carbondale—3
[In a way, the ‘world’ is one city, electronically]

Sing after me, chant what I chant first, for all are in this battle, and even the
Least among us can repeat what I chant:
P: Christ has conquered!
C; Christ has conquered!
P: We are mopping up,
C: We are mopping up,
P: by His command and in His power.
C: by His command and in His power.
P: It will take a while.
C: It will take a while.
P: Let’s all get to work.
C: Let’s all get to work.
P: One another one another.
C: One another one another.

I, a called and ordained servant of the Word, in the stead and by the command of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, have previously commissioned in Cornerstone Reformed Church, Carbondale, Illinois these actions by our warriors on the following fronts, in accordance with Matthew 28: 18-22.

18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19Go ye therefore, and [disciple] all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

As I list them, we all sing and respond with this:

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

P: We pray for Elder Jones and his work with the Fifth Word, especially the nursing home prayer action by some of his Ten, and his Fourth Time Around work to protect God’s eldsters.

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

P: We also pray for the research among some of Elder Jones’ Ten on Godparents for Eldsters, James 1:27.

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

P: We pray for the work of Elder Smith and his Ten in seeking out the chiefs of Carbondale, and working on the basis that history is liturgy, to put Cornerstone in the position of Commissioning Carbondale.

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

P: We pray for our mission in Russia.

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

P: We pray for the mission of our experienced keepers at home, in training our new keepers at home, under the leadership of Deaconess McNamara.

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

P: We pray for the respective callings of each of our members, however humble or exalted they may seem, remembering Luther’s saying that one can sweep floors for the glory of God. Elder Rodriguez heads up this effort. Let each member consult with him.

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

P: And let us pray for research in the new missions that turn Liabilities into Assets, and that last for decades, centuries, and longer.

P & C: Sent out in the power of Christ.

Before the blessing command and the commissioning
hymn, let us sing again, the congregation
after the pastor:

Sing after me, chant what I chant first, for all are in this battle, and even the
least among us can repeat what I chant:
P: Christ has conquered!
C; Christ has conquered!
P: We are mopping up,
C: We are mopping up,
P: by His command and in His power.
C: by His command and in His power.
P: It will take a while.
C: It will take a while.
P: Let’s all get to work.
C: Let’s all get to work.
P: One another one another.
C: One another one another.

Numbers 6: 23-27
22And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 23Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,
24The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
27And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.
Let us sing our commissioning hymn, ______________, as we are sent out.
