N. T. Wright's 'The Day the Revolution Began' does a good job of proving that Christ died not only to forgive sin, but to bring us back from Exile, to a new Exodus. He call it the covenant of vocation. We are the firmament between, representing God on earth and bringing Heaven, and transmitting back to the Creator, Creation.
