Some history first, a series of emails. Then an historical precedent, some themes, and a start on lyrics.
Dear
_____ and ______:
I think Pastor ___ likes this song.
Additional lyrics could be added, a la Charles Wesley, that specifically tell about A. D. 70.

Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain,
Whose blood set us free to be people of God?
Power, riches and wisdom and strength,
And honor and blessing and glory are his.
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia.
Sing with all the people of God
And join in the hymn of all creation;
Blessing and honor and glory and might
Be to God and the Lamb forever. "Amen.
This is the feast of victory for our God,
For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign.
Alleluia. Alleluia.”
Let’s do a Charles Wesley. He is
credited with thousands of hymns. For
many of these he supplied lyrics/words for tunes already in existence.
So, for the verses that celebrate A. D. 70’s destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem ,
what themes do we want to hymn? I’ll
list some, and then I’ll put some poor words to computer screen, praying that
others will have more themes, and better words.
The words above have
some problems.
Are they the words in
the green LCMS Hymnal?
Victory House-Building Pattern:
God destroys the enemies of His People.
With the spoils, His People build Him a house. He moves in, lights the fire, puts His feet
up, and His People administer the conquest in His Name.
Thus, God destroyed Egypt
and Pharaoh’s army. War materiel that washed up from the Red
Sea was added to the gifts, and the skills from Egypt of Aholiab
and Bezaleel helped the building. When
done, the Holy Spirit filled the Tabernacle…
Let’s start. Words used now in the
odd lines, new words to this theme in the even lines (italics).
(I think there are two more Alleluias)
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain,
Whose blood set us free to be people of God?
Worthy is Christ who destroyed the
In A. D. 70 a- a- s He said.
Power, riches and wisdom and strength,
And honor and blessing and glory are his.
He said He’d destroy it, the Temple
And Converts, and Scripture and glory are his.
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Sing with all the people of God
Each week we echo this worship
And join in the hymn of all creation;
And join in the way of joyous triumph
Blessing and honor and glory and might
He inspected it for leprosy
Be to God and the Lamb forever. "Amen.
And scattered it to unclean places.
This is the feast of victory for our God,
For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign.
Alleluia. Alleluia.”
Add: He’s done it in the past (victory-house building), He did it then, He keeps doing it (new orders: Church, Christian State, University), He’ll finally do it Finally, we echo all of them in Lord’s Day Worship,.
